







Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi met with staff from departments under the ministry at the Township Forest Department office in Homalin, Sagaing Region, on February 15.
During the meeting, the Union Minister stated that the ministry aims to increase forest cover to 50% and is working towards that goal.
Efforts include expanding reserved forests, protected public forests, and nature conservation areas, establishing forest plantations, greening roadsides, and implementing greening projects in 13 dry zones as a national duty. Forest cover in Homalin District has increased by 2.10%. It is necessary to protect tigers and other rare wildlife species in the Htamanthi Wildlife Sanctuary.
National tiger conservation action plans have been developed and are being implemented. To further develop bamboo and rattan finished product manufacturing and foster MSME growth in Homalin District, public-private partnerships with departments are needed.
Relevant departments must closely inspect and prevent illegal logging and mining activities within forest areas. He urged staff to adhere to the civil service code of conduct and strive to be reliable public servants. He also coordinated necessary actions based on staff submissions, it’s reported.
