Winter Crops Cultivation: Sunflower demonstration event in Chaungzon

A sunflower seed selection and promotion demonstration ceremony for the 2025–2026 season was held in Chaungzon Township of Mon State on Saturday.

Chief Minister U Aung Kyi Thein stressed the importance of ensuring food security and increasing the production of oil crops in Mon State. He said that for the 2025–2026 season, over 20,000 acres of groundnut, 1,532 acres of sesame, and more than 13,000 acres of sunflower have already been planted.

He encouraged farmers to use high-quality seeds suitable for their region and work together to improve crop yields and support economic development. Local farmers also presented their needs, including better farm roads, improved irrigation, and timely access to agricultural inputs.

In Chaungzon Township, a total of 3,684 acres of oil crops have been planted so far, exceeding the target. Overall winter crop cultivation in the township has reached 9,656 acres, including oil crops, summer paddy, and various beans.
