







In commemoration of the 79th Union Day, the inauguration ceremony of the Solar-Powered Yay Paw Thaung River Water Pumping and Village Electrification Project was held on February 12th at Yay Paw Thaung Village, Htantabin Township, Hmawbi District, Yangon Region.
Chief Minister U Soe Thein, attended the ceremony and delivered the opening address. Following this, Director U Kyaw Naing Oo from the Yangon Region Irrigation and Water Utilization Management Department clarified and presented the project details.
Subsequently, the Chief Minister presented 20 sets of low-lift solar pumps to farmers and officials from Htantabin Township, and also 20 sets of low-lift solar pumps to farmers and officials from Hmawbi Township. Representing the farmers, local farmer U San Maung expressed words of gratitude.
Afterwards, the Yangon Region Minister for Economic Affairs and responsible officials cut the ribbon to inaugurate the Yay Paw Thaung Solar-Powered River Water Pumping and Village Electrification Project and inspected the solar-powered river water pumping system.
The construction of the 500kwp On-Grid and Off-Grid solar system for the Yay Paw Thaung river water Pumping project was undertaken by Shwe Yi Thant Company starting from September 9th, 2025, with a budget of 3.456 billion Kyats allocated from the 2025-2026 fiscal year Yangon Region Government Fund.
The project aims to utilize solar energy, a renewable resource, to operate the large water pump motors, ensuring sufficient water supply for agriculture and drinking water for local villagers, as well as to facilitate village electrification during the non-irrigation season.
