





The final coordination meeting concerning the Myanmar Passport Law (Draft) was held at the meeting hall of Ministry of Legal Affairs in Nay Pyi Taw on February 11.
During the meeting, the Union Minister for Legal Affairs and Union Attorney General Dr. Thida Oo delivered the opening remarks. Deputy Minister for Home Affairs, Ma-J Gen. Min Thu, clarified and discussed that the current Myanmar Passport Act, enacted under the Indian Act No. 34 of 1920, is no longer compatible with the present circumstances.
He explained that a new law is being drafted to address difficulties and deficiencies in taking legal action against fraudulent activities such as the production of counterfeit passports, possession and use of other persons' passports, altering one's own passport for use, and allowing others to use one's passport, as well as to align with changing conditions.
Subsequently, responsible officials attending the meeting presented and discussed the contents of the Myanmar Passport Law (Draft) article by article. The Union Minister and Union Attorney General, considering that the Myanmar Passport Law (Draft) should be enacted as a law compatible with current circumstances, conducted the final coordination discussions to facilitate the enactment of the law, it’s learned.
