Acting President and Chairman of the State Security and Peace Commission Senior General Min Aung Hlaing on Sunday, hosted a dinner in honour of the Myanmar delegation who attended the Oral Hearings at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). In his congratulatory speech, the Acting President praised Myanmar’s delegation for their efforts in the Gambia-initiated genocide case at the ICJ.
The case, filed in 2019, accused Myanmar of genocide. After six years of proceedings, the oral hearings concluded in January 2026. The delegation, led by the Union Ministers and legal experts, prepared thoroughly, defending Myanmar’s position and protecting the country’s national interests and reputation.
The government emphasized that the case involves the entire nation, not individuals, and highlighted the unity of Myanmar citizens and officials in supporting the country throughout the proceedings. The Acting President noted that valuable legal experience and international lessons were gained, which will help Myanmar handle future challenges and protect national sovereignty.
Myanmar’s delegation leader, Union Minister at the President's Office (2), U Ko Ko Hlaing, explained the thorough preparations for the ICJ hearings, stressing that the team systematically gathered facts, consulted legal experts, and coordinated with international lawyers and historians to defend Myanmar’s position. The Union Minister expressed gratitude for having these efforts recognized through a ceremonial dinner. Then, the Acting President and attendees enjoyed the dinner together.
