








In honor of the upcoming 79th Union Day, the opening ceremony of the Nawarat Indoor Stadium was held in Shwepyitha Township, Yangon Region on February 2.
The ceremony was attended by Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and for Hotels and Tourism, Jeng Phang Naw Taung, who delivered the opening address. The ceremony commenced with a formal ribbon-cutting by the Yangon Region Minister for Development Affairs Yangon City Mayor, Chairman of the Yangon Region Sports and Physical Education Committee Region Minister for Social Affairs, Chairman of the Mingaladon District Management and Administrative Committee and the Director of the Yangon Region Sports and Physical Education Department.
Following that, Union Minister Jeng Phang Naw Taung and Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Thein officially unveiled the stadium's signboard by pressing a digital switch and sprinkling scented water on the commemorative plaque. Both the Union Minister and the Yangon Region Chief Minister delivered addresses highlighting the importance of the new facility for regional sports development.
Next, the Region Social Affairs Minister, presented commemorative gifts to the Union Minister and the Chief Minister. Then, a representative from Sun Ahlin Thit Co., Ltd., the construction firm, handed over the stadium's documentation to the Director of the Yangon Region Sports and Physical Education Department.
Afterward, Union Minister and Yangon Region Chief Minister awarded 1 million kyat to the drum and bugle and pom-pom troupes from BEHS (2) Hlaingthaya and 500,000 Kyats to the sports demonstration teams. The ceremony concluded with athletic demonstrations in Myanmar Thaing (Martial Arts), Aerobics, and Wushu, after which officials presented additional honorary awards to the participating athletes, it’s learnt.
