Support for Sports: Reunion of former Myanmar selected players

The 9th reunion ceremony of the Myanmar Veteran Selected Athletes Association was held at Thuwunna National Sports Stadium (1) in Thingangyun Township of Yangon Region on Jnuary 31.

Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee and Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and Hotels and Tourism, Jeng Phang Naw Taung attended the event together with retired Union Minister for Culture U Aye Myint Kyu, Yangon Region Social Affairs Minister U Htay Aung, officials from the Department of Sports and Physical Education, presidents and secretaries of sports federations, former selected players, invited guests and donors.

The event began with the national anthem and a one-minute silence in memory of deceased former selected players. In his opening speech, the Union Minister said the association was formed in 2014 to unite former selected players, support their social needs, and contribute to the development of Myanmar sports.

During the ceremony, donations totaling 90.9 million kyat were presented by the Myanmar Olympic Committee, Yangon Region Government, Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs, Ministry of Culture, sports federations, former athletes and football clubs. Sportswear and track suits were also donated.
