Free, Fair and Credible: International observers monitor Phase-3 Election in Yangon

Phase-3 of multi-party general election was observed on Sunday by international election observer teams and representatives from foreign embassies based in the country. Teams included representatives from Belarus, Cambodia, Nepal, Indonesia, Nicaragua, Viet Nam, India, and the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP). They visited polling stations in Dagon, Lanmadaw, Thaketa, Tamwe, and Yankin Townships in Yangon Region, meeting polling station officials and voters to observe the voting process.

Ambassador of the Republic of Belarus, Uladzimir Baravikou said " "Belarusian Embassy here is participating in observation mission. We started with the first part and we are here to continue our observation mission, together with our colleagues from Belarus. They came here. In-charge of the President of Belarusian Party, Belaya Rus. ... We could say that everything is organized in proper way in accordance with Myanmar legislation."

Observers watched voters freely and fairly casting their ballots using Myanmar Electronic Voting Machines and confirmed that election procedures were being followed transparently and according to international standards.

Vice Chairman, External Relations of Central Committee (ICAPP), Dr Chheng Kimlong said "I think this is the first time that the government of Myanmar and the people of Myanmar exercising their electronic voting system. The process is very easy, smooth, fast, efficient, and I think it contributes to transparency, and also contribute to promoting trust and more participation from the people."

The observers also discussed election procedures with local officials and voters to ensure the election remained free, fair, and credible.
