Review and Coordination Meeting : MOC Chairman delivered the opening remarks

The review and coordination meeting with officials from the sports federations that participated in the 33rd SEA Games was held on December 30 at the Padamya Hall of National Sports Stadium (1), Yangon. Chairman of the Myanmar Olympic Committee Union Minister for Sports and Youth Affairs and Hotel and Tourism, Jeng Phang Naw Taung, attended and delivered opening remarks.

According to the agenda, the meeting discussed with the sports federations of Chinlone, Sepak Takraw, Billiards/Snooker, Rowing, Sailing, Kickboxing, Muay, Judo, Equestrian, Chess, Tug of War, Wushu, Taekwondo, Boxing, Weightlifting, Wrestling, Taqball, Athletics, Karate, Petanque—which won gold, silver, and bronze medals at the 33rd SEA Games as well as the federations for Kabaddi, Volleyball, Bowling, Gymnastics, Squash, Cricket, Table Tennis, Ju-Jitsu, Shooting, Archery, Football, Futsal/Beach Soccer, Hockey, Badminton, E-Sports, Cycling, Swimming, Pencak Silat , Basketball, and Golf, which also competed.

In his opening remarks, the Union Minister stated that for participating in the upcoming 34th Southeast Asian Games, weaknesses encountered in this competition should be reviewed and addressed. Event sport types, internationally standard techniques and strategies should be re-studied, mastered, and understood.

Training should be conducted by qualified coaches, with systematic supervision and management, and preparatory training should begin now to ensure future successes, among other points.

Following this, the Deputy Minister explained the participation in the 33rd Southeast Asian Games, noting that out of 38 sports contested, medals (gold, silver, bronze) were won in 18 sports, while no medals were obtained in the remaining 20 sports, with achievements limited to simi-finals, team quarter-finals, individual quarter-finals, and group stages.

He also detailed the sports to be included in the 34th Southeast Asian Games, scheduled to be held in Malaysia from September 18 to 29, 2027, the sports in which Myanmar could potentially win medals, sports that may not be accessible for participation, the State and Region Sports Competitions to be held in 2026-2027, preparations for inter-ministerial sports competitions, and plans for collaborating with the Ministry of Education to develop new generation athletes.

Afterwards, the presidents and secretaries of Myanmar sports federations attending the meeting presented and discussed their respective plans based on identified weaknesses from the Southeast Asian Games.

Topics included future procedures for sports success, organizing referee and coach training courses and opportunities for overseas study, ensuring adequate sports facilities, nurturing new generation athletes, gaining competition experience through international competitions, hiring foreign coaches for training, conducting joint training abroad, identifying new generation athletes from state and region competitions, among others.

The Second Permanent Secretary and the Second Deputy Director-General then discussed nurturing new generation athletes, conducting pre-competition blacklist checks, collaborating with knowledgeable individuals for better technical approaches, and developing short-term and long-term plans for future competitions to be submitted through the Myanmar Olympic Committee to the Union Minister for integrated implementation.

Finally, the Union Minister supplemented necessary instructions, delivered concluding remarks, it is reported.
