Myanmar Election : Local and international observers visit the polling booths

Eligible voters from 12 townships in Yangon Region are casting their votes at respective polling stations for the first phase of the multi-party democracy general election on Sunday.

Local and international observers visit the polling stations to view the voting process, which use the Myanmar Electronic Voting Machine for the first time. The local experts expressed that interest of voters is high as about 25% have casted their votes within two hours after opening of the polling stations.

 The general election is being held in three phases. The first phase is taking place on 28 December 2025 in 102 townships. The second phase is scheduled for 11 January 2026 in 100 townships, followed by a third phase on 25 January in 63 townships.  A total of 4,863 candidates, representing 57 political parties and independent candidates, are contesting seats in the Pyithu Hluttaw, Amyotha Hluttaw, and Region/State Hluttaws.
