Power infrastructures supplying Lashio in Shan State (North) were damaged by insurgent vandalism in June 2024, resulting in power outages in the city and surrounding areas.
To restore national grid supply, 41 staff from the Department of Power Transmission and System Control began repairs on the 66 KV Mansan–Lashio No.1 transmission line starting November 25, 2025. The work was 100% completed, with test transmission carried out on December 24.
During the outage, Lashio received limited electricity only for administrative offices and about 25 percent of the city through nearby small scale hydropower plants. In order to restore 24 hours power supply, 45 staff from the Electricity Supply Enterprise have been repairing 66 KV and 33 KV substations in Lashio since May 30, 2025. Electricity is now being generated through the national grid and efforts are underway to restore full power across the entire city.
