As part of its counter-terrorism operations to regain control of certain towns and villages that had been temporarily occupied by terrorist insurgents, the Tatmadaw has been conducting counter-terrorism operations. On December 19, it was also able to recapture Sintgu Town in Sagaing Region and the surrounding areas.
While the area was under temporary control, terrorists operating under the name “PDF” carried out acts such as occupying religious buildings, schools, government offices, hospitals, and residential houses to establish bunkers; using civilians’ homes as defensive positions to launch attacks and planting and detonating landmines on roads and bridges that are mainly used by the public. On October 29, they also planted and detonated explosives on a bridge of major importance for public transportation and the flow of goods, which connects Sintgu Township in Mandalay Region with Kyauk Myaung Township in Sagaing Region. As a result, damage occurred between pier numbers RP4 and RP5 of the bridge’s central supports, as well as at the RP6–A2 approach section, rendering the bridge impassable for vehicles and travelers and causing a halt to the flow of goods.
Therefore, in order to enable travelers to resume movement and to restore the flow of goods in the region as quickly as possible through urgent bridge repair works, Tatmadaw columns continued to carry out necessary area security and control operations in and around the bridge area. As of December 22, it has been learned that the Ayeyawady Bridge (Yadanathingha ) and its surrounding areas, which had been temporarily controlled by terrorist insurgents, have been successfully recaptured and brought back under control.
As Tatmadaw units have regained control of the area, repair works on the Ayeyawady Bridge (Yadanathingha ) will be resumed as quickly as possible in cooperation with the relevant responsible authorities. Once the bridge repairs are completed, regional trade and transportation will improve, enabling regional development activities to resume. It has been reported that the public is pleased with this development, and that Tatmadaw units are continuing to carry out necessary area security and control operations.
