The 20th Myanmar–China Bilateral Meeting on Drug Control Cooperation was held on December 17 at the meeting hall of Taunggyi Hotel in Taunggyi City, Shan State.
At the opening ceremony, Secretary of the Central Committee for Drug Abuse Control (CCDAC) and Deputy Chief of Police (1) of the Myanmar Police Force, Police Major General Win Bo, delivered the opening remarks stating that, based on the existing friendship, mutual understanding, and trust between Myanmar’s CCDAC and China’s National Narcotics Control Commission (NNCC), cooperation has been steadily strengthened year by year, resulting in many notable achievements, which he welcomed with great satisfaction.
He further noted that the drug problem is one of the major challenges faced by countries around the world today, and that drug trafficking is a principal form of transnational crime. Therefore, the drug problem cannot be addressed by a single country alone, but rather represents a long-term challenge that requires sustained international cooperation.
He added that, as Myanmar is hosting the current meeting, it provides valuable opportunities for both countries to discuss the drug situation, share experiences, and jointly explore solutions to common challenges. Following this, representatives from both sides introduced themselves individually.
Subsequently, Mr. Zhao Zhongchen, Deputy Secretary-General of the National Narcotics Control Commission (NNCC) of the Ministry of Public Security of the People’s Republic of China and Deputy Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau, delivered remarks on matters related to the meeting, including practical measures and the formulation of new operational mechanisms. Then, the representatives of both sides exchanged commemorative gifts, after which the meeting was concluded.
