Union Minister for Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation U Khin Maung Yi visited Minbu District in Magway Region on 10 December to inspect development works.
He visited the Minbu District sports ground and inspected upgrades to the 400-metre running track, football field and spectator stands, and coordinated necessary arrangements. Later at the City Hall in Minbu, the Union Minister met with local residents and explained the progress of the Dry Zone Greening Programme. He highlighted the importance of forests in reducing global warming and climate impacts.
He noted that Minbu District’s forest cover increased from 14.42% in 2020 to 15.61% in 2025. He added that Minbu was listed among the world’s hottest cities in 2024 and receives less than 40 inches of rainfall annually, making greening efforts essential.
He said the ministry planted 121.87 million trees nationwide from 2021 to 2025, including more than 2.75 million trees in Minbu District. Under the five-year greening plan for 13 dry-zone districts, over 12.5 million trees will be planted, and more than 200,000 trees are planned for Minbu during the 2026 monsoon season.
