Achievement in Literature : 2024 National Literary Awards winners announced

The Ministry of Information has announced the winners of the 2024 National Lifetime Literary Awards and National Literary Awards. The Lifetime Achievement Awards were presented to Dr. Daw Po (Ma Lay Po), U Than Nyunt (Zin Min–Thamein Htaw), Daw Tin Yi (Tin Yi Ma–Nyaung U), U Ko Ko (Ko–University) and Dr. Khin Than Oo (Ma Moe Myay).

These writers were honored for their lifelong contribution to Myanmar literature. For the 2024 National Literary Awards, 15 winners were selected from first-time published works in various categories including Short Story, Classic Poetry, Modern Poetry, Children’s Literature, Translation (Knowledge), Translation (Art), Political Literature and English (Knowledge).

Each Lifetime Award winner will receive 10 million kyats, while each National Literary Award carries 4 million kyats. Likewise, the Printing and Publishing Department also announced winners of the 2024 Sarpay Beikman Manuscript Awards.

First, second and third prize winners in 15 different categories including Novel, Short Stories, Poetry Collection, Knowledge (Research), Children’s Literature, Youth Literature, and Drama. Prize amounts have been increased this year with 2 million kyats for 1st Prize, 1.5 million kyats for 2nd Prize and 1 million kyats for 3rd Prize.

Awardees are requested to contact the Sarpay Beikman Literary Committee Office in Yangon within one week to complete necessary documentation. The award ceremony will be held on November 20 (Sarsodaw Day) in Yangon, where the Lifetime, National, and Sarpay Beikman Manuscript Awards will all be presented.
