Myanmar traditional bullock cart racing and cattle beauty contests commenced on Saturday as part of the 55th Communal Maha Kathina Festival in Tatkon Township.

The opening ceremony was attended by Nay Pyi Taw Council Chairman U Than Tun Oo and officials as well as social organizations, judges, contestants, and local residents. In his opening remarks, the council chairman said the event aims to preserve and promote Myanmar’s traditional culture, encourage young people to value heritage, and honor cattle breeders who maintain fine livestock.

He also urged participants to compete fairly and follow the rules, while asking judges to make honest and transparent decisions. The contests will be held from November 1 to 3, with 28 bullock carts taking part.
