







A ceremony to mark World Sight Day 2025 was held at Sao San Tun General Hospital in Taunggyi on October 28.
According to WHO, about one billion people worldwide suffer from vision problems, 90% of whom are from developing countries, and that 80% of visual impairment cases are preventable or treatable.
It is learnt that Myanmar’s main causes of blindness include cataract, refractive error, trauma, glaucoma, diabetes, and hypertension. Myanmar is conducting Outreach Cataract Surgeries to reduce cataract blindness and that this year’s theme is “Love Your Eyes – Share Knowledge and Prioritize Eye Health.”
During the event, officials explained the current health programs in Shan State, and occurrence of eye diseases. In addition, eyeglasses were presented to patients who had undergone eye surgeries, and providing eye care services.
