Technical Discussion on Agriculture: Yangon Region CM delivered the opening speech

The technical discussion on achieving pesticide residue-free export crop products and target yields, organized by the Department of Agriculture under the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation, was held at the Kyar Kan Beikman Taw in Phayargone Village Tract, Thanlyin Township in Yangon Region on October 23. Yangon Region Chief Minister U Soe Htein attended and delivered the opening address.

Yangon Region Chief Minister stated that if farmers, companies and shops selling agricultural inputs, traders of agricultural products, exporters, and all relevant departmental officials collaborate, it will be possible to produce agricultural products free from pesticide residues. This would allow them to be sold proudly in the global market, and he urged everyone to work together successfully towards this goal.

Following this, U Zaw Lin, Director of the Plant Protection Division under the Department of Agriculture, explained the purpose of holding the technical discussion on achieving pesticide residue-free export crop products and target yields.

Subsequently, Yangon Region Chief Minister and officials demonstrated and explained the Direct Drum Seeders, which are to be produced under the supervision of the Yangon Region Government and with the Country’s Economic Promotion Fund, to the attendees.

The responsible officials discussed points to be implemented for achieving pesticide residue-free export crop products and target yields. This included methods for controlling insect pests using Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches, methods for controlling crop diseases using Integrated Disease Management (IDM) approaches, methods for controlling weeds using Integrated Weed Management (IWM) approaches, soil management methods, systematic fertilizer application techniques, and the use of high-quality seeds, it’s reported.
