







Under the theme “Fund Resilience, Not Disasters”, the ceremony to commemorate the 2025 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction was held at the indoor stadium of the Myitkyina People’s Sports Ground in Kachin State on October 13. All organizations that actively participated in and assisted regional natural disaster rescue operations were honored.
At the ceremony, Chairman of the Kachin State Natural Disaster Management Committee and State Chief Minister, U Khet Htein Nan, stated that Kachin State is located along the Ayeyawady River and on the Sagaing Fault Line, making it an area susceptible to various disasters. Therefore, it is crucial for the public to have a deep understanding and awareness of natural disasters, and disaster risk reduction and prevention are also of great importance etc.
Following this, the video message from the United Nations Secretary-General was played. Then, the State Chief Minister and officials presented cash awards and honorary certificates to the basic education High school, middle school and primary school level students who won prizes in the essay and painting competitions held for the 2025 International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction commemoration. They also watched a commemorative documentary video.
Subsequently, the State Chief Minister and officials presented honorary certificates to domestic social relief organizations that actively assisted in natural disaster rescue operations within the state.
Afterwards, the State Chief Minister and his wife, along with officials, toured the awareness-raising exhibition booths set up inside the hall for the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction commemoration and the quiz program section related to natural disasters, showing their support to the attending social organizations, students, and trainees.
