Int’l Literacy Day in Dawei: Taninthayi Region CM attended the ceremony

Following the theme “Let's Promote Literacy to Catch Up with the Digital Age,” the 2025 Taninthayi Region International Literacy Day ceremony was held in the Pyinnya Beikman Hall of Basic Education High School No. 3 in Dawei, on September 8.

The ceremony began with the students from BEHS No. 3 performing the song “The Land Where the Flowers of Good Will Bloom.”

During the event, Region Chief Minister U Myat Ko stated that International Literacy Day was established by the World Literacy Congress and led by UNESCO. It has been held annually on September 8th since 1966. He also emphasized the importance of everyone working together to promote literacy, in line with the 2025 theme, “Let’s Promote Literacy to Catch Up with the Digital Age.”

The Chief Minister then presented 50 million Kyats for non-formal education programs and awarded prizes to the students who won the high school essay competition.

After that, the Chief Justice of the Region High Court and region ministers presented awards to the student winners of the high school poetry competition and the middle school essay and poetry competitions. Basic education teachers then performed the song "Literacy Honor Song."

Following a video clip on literacy activities, students from BEHS No. 1 performed a song titled “Today for Children.”
