






The 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (AMMSWD) and Related Meetings is being hosted by the Ministry of Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement of Myanmar via video conference from August 26 to 29 at the M-Gallery Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw.
The theme of the meeting is "Enhancing Responsive Social Protection for Vulnerable Groups in the ASEAN Community." The opening ceremony was held at 8:30 a.m. on August 26, with Dr. Soe Win, the rotating chairman of the AMMSWD and Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement, giving the opening speech.
Following the opening, the 20th ASEAN GO-NGO Forum began. U San Lwin, Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN Secretariat, delivered a welcome speech. The forum was attended online by representatives from social welfare and development government departments and non-governmental organizations from ASEAN countries, as well as international development partners.
Attendees from the host country, Myanmar, including government departments and local and international social organizations, participated in person. During the forum, speakers from various ASEAN countries and partner organizations discussed social protection initiatives for vulnerable groups such as children, women, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
The forum concluded at 5 p.m. after participants made recommendations. The series of meetings will continue including 3rd ASEAN Outstanding Social Welfare and Development Award (AOSWADA) Ceremony and 21st SOMSWD Meeting (Senior Officials' Meeting on Social Welfare and Development) on August 27; 20th SOMSWD+3 Meeting (ASEAN+3 Senior Officials' Meeting on Social Welfare and Development) and 7th Network of Experts on Inclusive Entrepreneurship for ASEAN (NIEA) Meeting on August 28; 12th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Social Welfare and Development (AMMSWD) and Related Meetings and 8th AMMSWD+3 Meeting (ASEAN+3 Ministerial Meeting on Social Welfare and Development) on August 29.
