The Union Election Commission, on August 21, released an Announcement No. 63/2025 Regarding Permission for Election-Related Party Organizing, Field Organizing, and Public Speaking and Campaigning. In the announcement, it’s stated that in order for any Union government member, as per Section 6, subsection (a) and Section 7, subsection (b) of the existing Union Government Law, or any Deputy Minister, as per Section 17, subsections (c) and (d) of the existing Union Government Law, to not lose the right to be elected granted to them as a citizen under Section 38, subsection (a) of the Constitution, they are permitted to engage in election-related party organizing and field organizing activities starting from Monday, August 18, 2025 which is the date announced by the Union Election Commission for the election if they comply with the provisions of Sections 120 and 121 of the Constitution.
Similarly, in order for the Chief Justice or a Justice of the Supreme Court of the Union, the Chairman or a member of the Constitutional Tribunal of the Union, the Union Attorney General, the Deputy Attorney General, the Union Auditor General, the Deputy Auditor General, or the Chairman or a member of the Union Civil Service Board, to not lose the right to be elected granted to them as a citizen under Section 38, subsection (a) of the Constitution, they are permitted to engage in election-related party organizing and field organizing activities starting from Monday, August 18, 2025—the date announced by the Union Election Commission for the election if they comply with the provisions of Sections 120 and 121 of the Constitution.
Permission for election-related public speaking and campaigning will be issued by the Union Election Commission after the candidates for the respective legislative bodies have been confirmed. The announcement was signed by the Chairman of UEC U Than Soe.
