On August 19, the Tatmadaw regained the full control of Demoso Township in Kayah State, which had been temporarily occupied by KNPP, KNDF groups, and PDF terrorists, and continues to carry out necessary security and clearance operations in the area, it’s reported.
Since December 2021, the KNPP, KNDF, and PDF terrorist groups have been carrying out destructive activities in Kayah State, particularly around Loikaw, with the aim of disrupting the government’s administrative mechanism, obstructing the peace process of the State and Government, and intimidating local ethnic communities.
In November 2023, they attacked Loikaw University which is a non-military target with heavy weapons, using it as cover to strike Tatmadaw columns. They also arrested teachers and began step-by-step assaults to capture Loikaw. As a result, security forces and local defense troops, together with local residents, put up strong resistance, preventing the terrorists from seizing Loikaw.
The attackers suffered heavy losses and retreated in disarray. After retreating, the KNPP, KNDF, and PDF-designated terrorists infiltrated Demoso Township in November 2023, disguising themselves as villagers, and carried out destructive activities.
They fortified themselves in houses and religious buildings within the Township, and blockaded the Loikaw–Demoso–Bawlakhe transport route. Therefore, from August 4, 2025, Tatmadaw columns launched systematic offensives with heavy weapons, advancing step by step from Shwe Yauk Ward in northern Demoso, starting from the Taungoo junction, and from Pardaw Du village in the southeast.
They gradually cleared the town, engaging terrorist defenses such as bunkers above and below ground, high-rise buildings, schools, the township general administration office, the fire department, churches, and the hospital. On August 7, Tatmadaw secured Pardaw Du village and Shew Phe Khu Ward in southeastern Demoso.
On August 12, the Tatmadaw secured the fuel station area in Shwe Yauk Ward. On August 14, the Tatmadaw captured the township police station, fire department headquarters, township hospital, and the township general administration office in Aung Mingalar Ward.
On August 15, Tatmadaw secured the whole of Shwe Yauk Ward and the City Hall in Si Pin Thaya Ward, along with churches in Myoma Ward. Finally, on August 19, Tatmadaw regained full control of all of Demoso. Within the 16-day operation, a total of 23 battles including both large and small, took place.
Six bodies of enemy combatants and five assorted weapons were seized, while there were some causalities of security personnel. The Tatmadaw is now continuing clearance operations along the road connecting Loikaw and Demoso to ensure it can be reopened soon. Security measures, including mine clearance, are being reinforced to restore safe transport and administration in the area.
