In the Dry and Arid regions of central Myanmar, efforts are underway to further develop groundwater resources in line with the guidance of the Head of State, with the aims of enabling local communities to access water for agriculture and domestic use, and to promote greener, more fertile landscapes.

As part of the initiative, a total of 14 deep tube wells are being implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Irrigation including 7 in Mandalay Region and 7 in Magway Region.

On the morning of June 23, Deputy Minister U Bo Bo Kyaw and responsible officials inspected the completed construction status of the Hse-Yoe  deep tube well and the Selay Creek deep tube well in Myothit Township, Magway Region.

During the inspection, officials from the Department of Irrigation and Water Utilization Management provided briefings on the current progress of the projects, and the Deputy Minister gave additional instructions and held discussions on necessary matters.

Later, the Deputy Minister and officials visited the Seik-Tha solar-powered river water pumping project near Seik-Tha Village, in Mychaungye Village Tract, Magway Township, Magway District. Officials explained that the system uses 238 kW of solar power to operate two water pumps to distribute water for irrigation.

They also briefed on how booster pumps are used to distribute water to elevated farmland within the project area, ensuring water reaches highland zones for cultivation. The Deputy Minister provided further guidance and discussed areas needing support.
