








The opening ceremony of the UN Peacekeeping Officer Course, jointly organized by the Myanmar Tatmadaw and the Indian Armed Forces, was held at the Park Royal Hotel in Nay Pyi Taw on July 21st. This course aims to educate Myanmar Tatmadaw officers and ranks on the duties and responsibilities related to UN peacekeeping operations.
The ceremony was attended by Vice Chairman of the State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services (Army), Vice Senior General Soe Win, along with senior Tatmadaw officials from the Office of the Commander-in-Chief of Defence Services, the Commander of Nay Pyi Taw Command, Mr. Abhay Thakur, Ambassador of India to Myanmar, military attachés, instructor officers from Indian Armed Forces, and Tatmadaw officer trainees and relevant officials from Myanmar.
First, Vice Senior General Soe Win, delivered an opening speech. Subsequently, the Ambassador of India to Myanmar also gave an opening address.
Following this, an instructor officer from the Center for United Nations Peacekeeping (CUNPK) in India provided a presentation via PowerPoint on India's involvement in UN Peacekeeping Operations.
After that, Vice Senior General Soe Win and officials, along with the CUNPK instructor officers and trainees attending the opening ceremony, took a commemorative group photo.
This marks the eighth time this course has been offered. From 2016 to 2019, a total of 130 officers and 84 ranks participated. The current course will see 30 officers in attendance. The training, which will run until August 1, will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of various subjects, including the history, structure, regulations, and operations of UN peacekeeping missions, the code of conduct to be observed by UN peacekeeping forces, protection of civilians and children, civil-military cooperation, patrolling, convoy security, construction of company base camps and "Blue Helmet" exercises.
