Inspection Tour: Efforts to ensure food sufficiency and boost production

On 9th July, Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung inspected Wah Ka Toke Dam in Bago Region and heard reports on annual rainfall record, water inflow, water storage and resilience of the dam.

Upon reports, the Union Minister instructed on sufficient agricultural water supply, systematic monitoring and maintenance measures to ensure safety and resilience of the dam. Wah Ka Toke Dam was constructed to prevent potential floods due to water flowing from Bago Mountain Range during rainy season. The dam not only provides necessary water supply for about 1,000 summer and monsoon paddy plantations but also supply water to Moeyungyi lake.

On the 10th, the Union Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Min Naung met with region and district heads of departments at Meiktila District Agriculture Department in Mandalay Region, to ensure food sufficiency and accelerate crops and livestock production.

During the meeting, the Union Minister made clarifications on policies and instructions of the government. He called for concerted efforts of the relevant departments in meeting targeted yield of the main crops, raising awareness among farmers and growers to accelerate multicropping as well as the expansion of livestock breeding enterprises.
