Signing MOU: Launch of a new Small Development Project

The Government of India has extended support for a new Small Development Project (SDP), with a strong focus on capacity building and livelihood generation for seafarers.

Indian Ambassador to Myanmar Abhay Thakur and Director General of Department of Marine Administration under the Ministry of Transport and Communications Dr. Ko Ko Naing signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Yangon on Friday.

The project envisages financial support for the construction of simulator-based training centre as well as installation of modern state of the art digital simulator for training of seafarers at Yangon. The project implementation is expected to start immediately. The framework MoU for Indian Grant Assistance for the Implementation of SDP was originally signed on 27 July 2010 and is valid till July 2030.

Under this cooperation, India has extended support to various projects, including 500 bedded hospital in Monywa, Sagaing Region, supply of computers and agro machinery in Rakhine State, support for Home Science schools across multiple states and regions of Myanmar among others. India remains steadfast in its commitment to funding up to USD 2 million per project for developing High Impact Community Development Infrastructure.
