





The Central Committee on Intellectual Property Rights held its meeting (1/2025) at the conference hall of the Ministry of Commerce in Naypyidaw on Monday.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Central Committee, member of State Administration Council, Deputy Prime Minister, and Union Minister for Transport and Communications General Mya Tun Oo and delivered the opening remarks. Initially, the Central Committee Chairman General Mya Tun Oo, stated that efforts are being made to establish a modern and effective intellectual property system to support the socio-economic development of the country.
He noted that among the four intellectual property laws enacted in 2019, the Trademark Law, Industrial Design Law, and Literary and Artistic Copyright Law came into effect in 2023, while the Invention Patent Law became effective in 2024. He emphasized that implementing a system to protect intellectual property rights in the country would foster innovation and competitiveness in both the government and private sectors, contributing to the nation's economic growth.
Therefore, he urged all involved to strive to develop an intellectual property system that benefits the entire nation and can be effectively utilized. Subsequently, the Vice-Chairman of the Central Committee, Union Minister U Tun Ohn, provided an overview of the ongoing efforts related to intellectual property rights. The Secretary of the Central Committee, a Deputy Minister, reported on the implementation progress of the resolutions from the Central Committee Meeting (2/2024). The Joint Secretary of the Central Committee presented the agenda items submitted for the Central Committee Meeting (1/2025).
Following this, Deputy Ministers, Directors-General, and other attendees who are members of the Central Committee discussed and provided suggestions on intellectual property-related issues, addressing relevant sectors. The Chairman of the Central Committee then supplemented the discussions, coordinated necessary actions, and delivered concluding remarks before adjourning the meeting.
