Two US military pilots rescued after jet crashes in water

A US military jet crashed in the waters of San Diego, in California. Two US Navy pilots ejected from their EA-18G Growler jet before it crashed in San Diego Bay, according to a US Navy spokesperson. The two occupants of the E/A-18G Growler were first picked up by the Premier Sportfishing vessel and then transferred to a nearby Customs and Border Protection craft, Coast Guard spokesperson said.

. Soundbite said Daniel Moen, Lieutenant, San Diego Harbor Police Department "At about 10:15 today, harbor police received a report that there was an aircraft that had gone into the water. We responded. And we did find some Good Samaritans had recovered two pilots from the water."

The crash occurred during a “go-around maneuver,” in which the aircraft landed and was taking off again, according to Navy spokesperson. The cause of the crash is under investigation.
