Repair works are being carried out at Upper Paung Laung Hydropower Plant as the facility was damaged by the floods caused by the impact of Typhoon Yagi.

On Saturday, the Union Minister for Electric Power U Nyan Tun and Union Minister for Industry Dr Charlie Than visited the power plant to oversee the work progress.

During the inspection, the Union Ministers instructed for systematic work implementation, and viewed the condition of water inflow into the dam, its storage and durability. Due to the floods last year, the power plant has been inundated due to the overflow of spillway. This led to the blockages at the Tailrace Channel and Spiral Casing of the plant.

Likewise, the heavy rain caused the collapsed of the approach road to the power plant. The Upper Paung Laung Hydropower Plant generates a total of 140 megawatt electricity, with the operation of two 70 megawatts installed generators. With its annual generation of about 454 million kilowatt hours electricity, the facility distributes electricity to the National Grid through 230 KV Upper Paung Laung-Nan Cho Power Line.

At present, clearing of silt in the facility has completed 22% while the mechanical and electrical works completed over 43% and repair works of generators for over 21%. Efforts are being made for speedy repair works for re-distribution of electricity as soon as possible.
