The second monsoon tree planting ceremony of 2026 was held in Nay Pyi Taw Dekkhinathiri Township on Thursday, with the attendance of President U Min Aung Hlaing.

In his speech, the President highlighted the importance of tree planting for environmental conservation, climate stability, biodiversity protection, and disaster prevention. He said Myanmar aims to increase forest coverage from the current 42.15% to 50% of the country's land area.

He also warned about the impacts of climate change, including rising temperatures, droughts, and wildfires, and stressed that protecting forests and planting trees are effective ways to address these challenges. The President urged citizens to not only plant trees but also ensure their long-term survival for the benefit of future generations.

Then, the President planted Padauk sapling at the designated location, followed by planting of saplings by the dignitaries, together with the departmental personnel, faculties, students and officials. At the ceremony, officials, government staff, teachers, students, and other participants planted 3,000 trees from 14 different species, including Padauk, Teak, Mahogany, and other flowering and evergreen trees.
