






The Electric Power and Energy Development Commission meeting (1/2025) was held at the meeting room of the State Administration Council Office in Nay Pyi Taw on January 7.
The meeting was convened to enhance the development of the electricity and energy sectors.The Electric Power and Energy Development Commission Chairman, SAC member, Deputy Prime Minister at the office of the Prime Minister, Union Minister Admiral Tin Aung San, along with other members of the Commission, senior government officials, Chairman of Nay Pyi Taw Council, Chief Ministers from regions and states, and Chairman and members of UMFCCI participated in the meeting.
Additionally, engineers and officials from various regions and states joined the meeting online.In the opening speech, the Commission Chairman highlighted that the commission was established on December 18, 2024, with the aim to accelerate the development of both the electricity and energy sectors.
He emphasized that the commission members and experts must work together to identify development trends in line with modern approaches and find solutions for priority tasks that can be addressed in the short term. The country has various natural resources available for electricity generation, including hydropower and natural gas, and there is a need to expand the use of renewable energy sources.
To meet the short-term demand for electricity, efforts are ongoing to generate power from Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) plants. He also stressed the importance of setting clear short-term and long-term objectives, along with the necessary plans to ensure the successful implementation of the projects.Next, the Vice Chairman (1), Union Minister for Electricity and Energy, U Nyan Tun, and the Vice Chairman (2), Union Minister for Energy, U Ko Ko Lwin, explained the current status of implementation in the electricity and energy sectors, challenges faced, and the conditions for future action.
After that, the members of the Commission and Union Ministers provided updates on the progress of the electricity and energy sector development in their respective ministries, detailing the current situation and future plans. Nay Pyi Taw Chairman, Chief Ministers of Regionsand States also presented the status of electricity supply and consumption in their regions, along with the ongoing and future development plans.Finally, the Chairman of the Electric Power and Energy Development Commission delivered a concluding speech.
