


Romania's top court has scrapped the results of the first round of the country's presidential election, won by Calin Georgescu. He secured the first round on November 24.
The Constitutional Court published its decision on Friday to annul the election. Without naming Georgescu, it said the non-transparent use of digital technologies resulted in the distortion of voters' expressed will.A runoff vote, which was scheduled for Sunday, has been canceled.On Sunday, Georgescu appeared with his supporters at a polling station where he had planned to vote for himself.
Current President Klaus Iohannis, whose term is scheduled to end on December 21, said new election dates will be set by a new government that emerges from legislative elections earlier this month. Iohannis said he would stay in his post until a successor is elected.
