Tribhuvan Intl’ Airport Runway to close 10hrs daily

Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu will be closed for 10 hours daily starting from today due to ongoing work to increase the runway capacity.  The Civil Aviation Authority Nepal (CAAN) announced that the closure is necessary for the construction of a parallel taxiway to the runway.

As part of efforts to enhance the capacity of the runway, the construction will take approximately 5 months, and the work must begin in November to avoid delays.  CAAN explained that the work is being carried out during the winter months when air traffic is generally lower, making it an opportune time to undertake the upgrades.
