Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese on Tuesday highlighted the Pacific's immediate vulnerability to climate change during the Pacific Pre-COP31 Leaders' Plenary in Nadi of Fiji. Albanese stated that climate change is "not a problem for the future" for low-lying nations like Tuvalu and the broader Pacific, noting that it is a daily reality right now.

Some regional observers and leaders have also pointed out a perceived gap between Australia's climate rhetoric and its ongoing approval of fossil fuel projects, as well as a broader climate finance shortfall in the Pacific.
