Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said Spain has been hit by the "worst storm surge in the last century" with dozens of places, particularly the Valencia region, hit by severe floods. Heavy rain and fierce winds have lashed southern and eastern Spain since the beginning of the week, sparking floods in Valencia and the southern Andalusia region.

Parts of the Valencia region are without power with phone lines also down, and some places were cut off by flooded roads. The Prime Minister expressed "solidarity and affection" for the families of those who have died as a result of the flooding, with the death toll reaching at least 62 people.
