Mount Ibu in Halmahera, Indonesia erupted again on 1st June, spewing an ash cloud five kilometers high, said the Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG). Meanwhile, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) issued a warning about potential eruptions, floods, and cold lahar flows as a result.

Authorities noted an increase in volcanic activity starting in April, leading to the evacuation of seven nearby villages. The BNPB urged residents and tourists to maintain a distance of at least 7 km from the active crater. Mount Ibu has been at the highest alert level of PVMBG since 16th May.
