Myanmar-India: 7th Bilateral Meeting on Drug Control held

The 7th Myanmar-India Bilateral Meeting on Drug Control was hosted by Myanmar in the morning on 24th January and was attended by the delegation led by Joint-Secretary of the Central Committee on Drug Abuse Control, Commander of the Drug Enforcement Police Force, Police Brig-Gen Win Naing through video conferencing in Nay Pyi Taw.
At the meeting, Police Brig-Gen Win Naing, who led the Myanmar delegation, said that due to the innovative technology and changing situations, the drugs problem is extremely complicated and it’s the biggest challenging problem among those which are being experienced by every country, although each country is carrying out the drug control in multiple ways, those are experiencing many difficulties and challenges. It is a crucial task for all countries to solve by working together as the drug cartels are constantly changing in the pattern of transportation with the advancement of technology.
Now, as the transnational criminal groups are continuously increasing the drugs trafficking as the main business, the drug problem even has expanded without declining and the drug cartels are working in network and expanding the market.
The major problem threatening the countries of the world is the Synthetic Drug and the production, transportation and market are more expanding. Similarly, due to easy availability of more cost-effective and high-quality man-made synthetic drugs, it appears that the drug users are on the rise.
Myanmar is making exerted effort for elimination of drug abuse as the national task from all corners comprehensively, To solve the drug problem, it is necessary to prioritize the control of precursor chemicals which is essential in drug production, illegal entry of precursor chemicals and precursor diversion in the region are the major challenge for the task of drug elimination etc. The meeting was attended by the Indian delegation led by Director-General Mr Satya Narayan Pradhan of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).
At the meeting, the two sides discussed the current situation of the drug, the issues of carrying out the prevention to block the precursor chemicals used in the production of drug, condition of reducing drug abuse, information exchange on the growing opium plants at the border areas and the 8th meeting to be hosted by India.
