The exploration of natural gas at Well Nos. 50, 54, and 56, previously considered less promising due to thin sand layers, has yielded unexpected success.
During a visit to the Apyauk Natural Oil Gas Field by Union Minister for Energy U Ko Ko Lwin, the newfound productivity at Well No. 60 was reported, showcasing advancements in exploration processes.
The Union Minister congratulated the personnel involved for the increased production and emphasized the importance of further studies to integrate modern technologies, including AI, to enhance oil and natural gas production.
During the visit, the Union Minister also engaged with the families of staff members and coordinated welfare activities. Discovered in 1991, the Apyauk Natural Gas Field had ceased production in 2019, only to rediscover natural gas recently. The increased natural gas production is now being distributed to Urea Fertilizer Plants, LPG Plants, and CNG vehicles.
To compensate for the decreased production in inland natural gas fields, a blend of high-valued natural gas from offshore fields such as Yadana, Zawtika, and Shwe is being distributed for CNG vehicles. The successful discovery of natural gas from thin sand layers marks a pivotal moment in Myanmar's oil and gas exploration, opening a new chapter of prosperity for the industry.
