China's Xi meets Maldivian counterpart Muizzu in Beijing

Chinese President Xi Jinping greeted Maldivian counterpart Mohamed Muizzu in Beijing on Wednesday during Muizzu's first state visit since taking office in September. The two heads of state announced the elevation of bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.

Xi said in the 52 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and the Maldives, the two countries have consistently shown mutual respect, support and beneficial cooperation between countries of different sizes. The two countries signed several agreements, including on climate, agriculture, and infrastructure.
