A huge fire destroyed a whole area of traditional wooden houses in Japan's Wajima, following a powerful earthquake that killed at least 78 people and left tens of thousands without power or running water in Wajima.

Thousands of soldiers, firefighters and police officers from across Japan searched through the debris of collapsed wooden houses and commercial buildings for signs of life. It’s reported that more than 50 people missing on Thursday and hundreds still block from help, three days after a devastating earthquake.

As rescue operations are carried out, more than a dozen communities remained isolated by landslides and blocked roads in central Japan, where the quake struck on Monday. Authorities also published a list on Thursday of 51 people whose whereabouts could not be confirmed.
