Mumbai engulfed in smog ahead of New Year's Eve

Mumbai's iconic landmarks and buildings were seen covered in toxic smog ahead of New Year's Eve. The air quality index in several places of the city had breached the 200-mark, blanketing Mumbai in a choking haze.

According to scientists, the city is slated to experience bad air quality owing to the dipping temperatures as well as the delayed time of the wind reversals.India has struggled with poor air quality for decades, with a 2020 study attributing 1.67 million deaths to air pollution in the country during the previous year.
