




At least 116 people were killed when a magnitude-6.2 earthquake jolted Jishishan County in northwest China's Gansu Province at 11:59 p.m. local time on Monday at a depth of 10 kilometers, as rescuers raced against time to find survivors amid freezing temperatures.
Apart from the deceased, 198 people were injured in Qinghai, while 16 others remain missing. In Gansu, the number of injured has risen to 782. Chinese President Xi Jinping called for "all-out efforts" in the search and relief work. Several smaller aftershocks followed the initial earthquake, and officials warned that tremors with a magnitude of more than 5.0 were possible in the next few days.
