Thadingyut Festival in Rakhine State: 10,000 oil lamps offered to Lawka Nanda Pagoda

Rakhine State Chief Minister U Htein Lin and many other officials participated in a ceremony to light 10,000 oil lamps dedicating to the Lord Buddha took place on the platform of the Lawka Nanda Pagoda in the evening of Thadingyut full moon day.
This ceremony also included a hot-air balloons releasing event. The Thadingyut Festival also known as the Lighting Festival is held on the full moon day of the month of Thadingyut. As a custom, it is held at the end of the Buddhist sabbath and is the second most popular festival after the Thingyan Festival.
Thadingyut festival is the celebration to welcome the Lord Buddha’s descent from the heaven after he preached the Abhidhamma to his mother, Maya, who was reborn in the heaven.
