Indonesia-China agree to strengthen business ties

President Joko Widodo raised several points in his talk with President Xi, from bilateral investments and people-to-people relations. During the meeting, President Widodo raised four topics on bilateral relations between the two countries.

First, Joko Widodo says Indonesia hopes that china increases its investments in several sectors, including electric vehicle battery production and the automotive industry, spare-parts factory, petrochemicals, and steel.

He also shows his support on a partnership between both countries’ monetary authorities, namely Bank Indonesia and People’s Bank of China in a plan to implement local currency transactions and cross-border Quick Response (QR), to facilitate exports and imports as well as investments.

Widodo also told Xi that Indonesia is accelerating development of new and renewable energy power plants, with a total capacity of sixty gigawatts by 2040. Furthermore, he hopes for increasing amount of tourist arrival from China adding more direct flights between the two countries.

Relating to the education sector, he expects to see more Indonesian students gain scholarships and vocational school opportunities in China.
