Bangladesh on Thursday joined the global wind power club with the inauguration of a 22-turbine wind farm project that was made possible with Chinese investment. The project, with an installed capacity of 66 megawatt, will provide more than 145 million kwh of green electricity per year.
The project, which started construction in September 2021, is expected to reduce the country's annual coal consumption by more than 44,600 tons, effectively cutting carbon dioxide emissions by nearly 110,000 tons.
The new facility is located in Bangladesh's southeastern coastal district of Cox's Bazar, some 400 km away from Dhaka. It was built by the PowerChina Chengdu Engineering Corp with funding from Wuling Power Corp., a subsidiary of China's State Power Investment Corp.
