The implementation of electronic road pricing (ERP) system would be more effective compared to the other two previous traffic control policies namely the three-in-one and the odd-even policy, according to the executive director at institute for transportation studies (INSTRAN).

The public can gain several benefits from the use of ERP such as reducing noise generated by vehicle sounds, lowering air pollution levels generated by vehicular emissions, decreasing the number of vehicles, reducing accident rates, enhancing people’s productivity and minimizing economic losses due to traffic congestion.

Jakarta provincial government is reviewing the use of odd-even policy for vehicles as well as emission tests, which will take into effect in coming November. The executive director of (INSTRAN) said, those two policies are not effective to encourage public to switch to using public transportations, to reduce traffic congestion and control air pollution in Jakarta.
