Farmers in Nakuru are calling on the government to promote the production of indigenous crops and ensure access to seeds to mitigate effects of climate change. The peasant farmers under a program further want the government to address shortage of indigenous seeds and food, organic farm inputs and ensure access to markets.

Head of Program Seed Savers Network said, the majority of farmers are gradually warming up to the indigenous seeds having been frustrated by the dwindling yields over the years and the indigenous seeds have the capacity to give higher yields even on small parcels of land, pointing out that the farmers only need to be trained on best farming practices.

Project Officer at Slow Food Kenya challenged farmers to be keen on promoting varieties which are resilient to climate change as a way of promoting them for future generations.
