The Solomon Islands opened its embassy in China on Tuesday, nearly four years after it established diplomatic ties with China. Senior Chinese diplomat Wang Yi and the Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands Manasseh Sogavare attended the ceremony in Beijing.

In 2019, China and the Solomon Islands officially established diplomatic relations. The two countries signed an agreement on a "Sports Technical Assistance Project" for this year's Pacific Games in Solomon capital Honiara, for which Beijing is building the host stadium.

The Prime Minister of the Solomon Islands is expected to be in China until Saturday, and is officially opening his country's Beijing embassy as well as visiting the economic powerhouse provinces of Jiangsu and Guangdong.
