The National Development and Planning Ministry of Indonesia is holding ASEAN blue economy forum to make maritime-based economic development a priority in the region.

The forum, held in Belitung, kicked off on Saturday and ends today. Indonesia as the current ASEAN chair, is committed to creating the ASEAN blue economy framework, as one of its priority deliverables.

The Minister said that maritime-based economic developments have plenty of potential in ASEAN, as the region has oceans and seas covering more than 66 percent of its area.

The forum was a multi-stakeholders and multi-sectoral one in ASEAN, where it acts as a platform for discussions on good practices, challenges, and efforts in implementing blue economy strategy.
